3 Black Friday Shopping Mistakes You’re Probably Making Today

Black Friday is here again! Let the insanity begin. Many people go gaga about this shopping spree day. A day to push and pull inanimate objects in stores like your life depend on it. Rudeness and insensitivity are showcased by buyers. Retailers shove their advertisements and discounts in your face everywhere you go.

You are probably standing in a looooong line already to buy your “most needed item” of the year. Hold on. Why do people leave their houses at midnight or wee hours to line up at stores, just to buy an item in this digital age? After working in a retail store for two Black Fridays, I found out many mistakes people make on this popular shopping day. Let’s dive right in a talk about these mistakes.

Mistakes Shoppers Make On Black Friday And How To Avoid Them

1. Shopping In Physical Stores Instead Of Online

It just doesn’t make sense to me how anyone will wake up so early in the morning, drive for over one hour or 30 minutes to go shopping when you can buy same item online. Cyber Monday, which is a digital equivalence of Black Friday will save you the stress of being run over at the packing lot or pushed around and possibly get hurt in the stores.

Most of the discounts you get online is same or even higher than what you get in the brick and mortar shop. You only have to deal with the shipping. If you intend to buy computers or any electronics from Best Buy, it would be much more rewarding to check their website on Monday or few days before Black Friday to see their Black Friday Deals. Buy your product of choice online. Amazon has great deals which they send to their customers before the popular Friday. See these amazing Amazon Deals on Electronics here. With the existence of online stores, I don’t expect too many showings and pushing in stores on a Black Friday. By the way, I bought this Instant Pot and it is so worth it. It is a multi-cooker, combines 7 kitchen appliances in 1, Pressure Cooker, Slow Cooker, Rice Cooker, Steamer, Sauté, Yogurt Marker and Warmer, prepares dishes up to 70% faster to support your busy lifestyle.

2. Shopping On Black Friday

Is rushing to buy these items you may or may not really need the best decision? Let’s assume you have a very genuine need to buy an item (we all do). Black Friday seems to be the perfect day to buy it at dirt cheap price? No, it’s may not be.

Most stores drop prices further after Christmas because they want to get rid of leftover stock after Christmas sales. End of year inventory is taken and old stocks are expected to be sold out to start the next fiscal year in a cleaner state. First and second weeks of January are the best periods to shop for that item you would have bought on Black Friday. Why? This is because many items bought on Black Friday and Christmas shopping days would be returned by customers who no longer think they need those products. The product is still intact but the packaging may have been destroyed, so these stores heavily mark them down. Remaining stocks are usually marked down as well. So, if you have a major need for the year, check your favourite stores after Christmas or first two weeks of January.

3. Getting Into More Debt

Buy even the things you don’t know, phew!

“Buy today, pay later” economy has caused many people to get into heavy debt that would send them to “financial jail”. Just because you have a credit card in your wallet does not mean you have to swipe it at every POS you see. Make the wise decision to live within or even below your means. It is more peaceful to live debt-free and have less than to own a lot and live in perpetual debt. Black Friday is a debt accumulation day. Yeah! You put all your shopping on the credit card and go broke in January. The more deals you buy, the mightier your debts become so shop wisely and with moderation. Why do we keep buying the things we don’t really need with the money we don’t have.

These are the mistakes you’re probably making on Black Friday. Lest I forget. Happy Thanksgiving to my American friends! Enjoy your turkey and sumptuous meal. Let’s hear your Black Friday experience.
